De nieuwsjaarsduik in Scheveningen gaat voor het eerst in 39 jaar niet door. De verwachte storm gooit roet in het eten.

Door een combinatie van harde wind uit zuid-west tot west en opkomend tij, ontstaat er een sterke stroming en hoge golfslag.

Hierdoor kan de veiligheid van deelnemers in gevaar worden gebracht.

Tevens worden op het strand waarschuwingsborden geplaatst. De organisatie zal op de boulevard de gestrande bezoekers en deelnemers opvangen met een kop warme erwtensoep.
