Gmail integreert POP3: ultieme online mailapp is geboren

Er zijn dingen die gewoon moeten gebeuren. Eén daarvan was altijd (althans, ik hoopte het) dat Gmail op een dag POP3-mail toe zou laten in hun interface. Daarmee bedoel ik dus dat ik mijn mail van een totaal ander domein (bijvoorbeeld blueace.nl) in Gmail zou kunnen ophalen, en via hun superieure systeem zou kunnen lezen of archiveren. Vandaag is die dag.

Stilletjes heeft Google namelijk deze feature geimplementeerd. Opzich mocht het ook wel tijd worden: .Mac en Yahoo hadden deze optie al langer. Toch bleven deze producten in de schaduw van Gmail’s labels, spam protectie, opslagruimte en andere features staan.

Lees hier precies hoe je het kunt gebruiken. De functie is nog niet voor iedere gebruiker beschikbaar, maar dat schijnt zo snel mogelijk wel zo te zijn. Als jullie me willen excuseren: ik heb wat overschakelen te doen…

FCC leaks Philips WiFi VoIP phone

Deep down inside the FCC’s electronic filing system lies a wealth of unmined information that has to be gradually released into the blogosphere less we all suffer from an information overload and have brains oozing out from our ears. The latest wireless VoIP handset from Philips comes with a VGA-class webcam and a 240-degree pivot that makes it suitable for video calls, but unless it embraces AIM chat or Skype video, it will be pretty much useless. The 2.2″ color 176 x 220 pixel display ain’t half bad though, but it definitely isn’t suitable for viewing high resolution images. There’s no word on pricing or availability at the moment. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed that widely popular standards will be embraced in favor of proprietary formats.
