LANDISK: NAS-BASIC48

Just got a confirmation from my contacts: RDC has released NAS-BASIC48 to vendor(s) no loader change. The NAS-BASIC48 has been released to fix Microsoft Vista bugs.

indeed in the webinterface there is mention of wget stuff, but there is no function addressed to it yet. Even the release notes of RDC does not mention it

I am waiting for the files now, so that I can release it asap.

I’ve released the NAS-BASIC48.. (not tested yet. Probably later today)

firmware tested, the wget stuff is bogus as the cgi is not included (probably also too big to be included into the memory and maybe this html is also used for the 2891 chipset

New is in the GUI that there is now more info aobut the HDD inserted.

Extra disk info: – FW: wx. “3.AAE” – SN: ex. “5LS3AG02”

Update information for RDC2882 chipset: this chipset will be phased out Q1 2008. Af from today the latest version of the firmware is the latest one(s) available from my website http://www.aroundmyroom.com/landisk

total focus of RDC is now the RDC2891 and from Q2 2008 the RDC2892 chipset

    >>> nly by using the tool to see bootloader and inserted firmware you can tell little more

Dennis – thank you so much for the information you provided. Now (as I’m totally new around here and didn’t find it though I tried) can perhaps anyone point me to where I can download the tool Dennis mentioned?

For the experts around here it’s probably a stupid question as you know it without further reference – but for me it would really help.

(Dennis, if by ‘using the tool’ you meant to refer to the admin browser interface of the network drive itself: it lists ‘NAS-BASIC45, LOADER 68’ as the current firmware. But would that safely tell me if I can use the latest firmware at http://www.aroundmyroom.com/landisk/nas-basic48? – I thought perhaps there is a tool somewhere that I could get hold of which extracts a bit more info out of the box about the chipset used in there?)

    Many thanks in advance!

Question-Is there a newer firmware version that I can use for my 3.5 NAS Enclosure? Firmware is NAS2890-008 LOADER 3.2. That is what it probably needs coz if I use LAN as my connection and access the storage, the files are not there as if they’re invisible but if I use the USB my PC detects the hard drive inside the NAS enclosure and the folders are accessible. Please help. Thanks

    Hi all,

    I have the Conceptronic CHD3LAN (400Gb) landisk.
    Usings Basic48-Loader67

    I have two questions/remarks;
    – Using filsynchronisation software (or in fact copying files), does not work properly. It is probably caused by a not updating directory (list). A refresh (F5) is needed to update the directory. As sync software does not do that, it can not work as it should.
    – Sometimes, especially when copying a lot of small files, the file copy stops and I have to reset/switch off/on the landisk. Also file transfer is very slow.
I noticed the speed and synchronisation is much better when using the FTP functionality.

Has anyone noticed these issues too and do you have a solution.

    Regards, Ron

    Chris,

I noticed you are using this with a DM500, can I ask you have you managed to move your VAR (using PLI image) to the NAS and get it to work?

I have mounted it and let the DM do the move all goes ok but DM then will not try and access it afterwards (although it shows the free space on the drive as VAR)

    Dennis,

It is great to find your site and your development.

I have a Sitecom MD-250 and firmware is NAS-BASIC45a, LOADER 69. The current transfer rate over LAN is 3.5Mb.

    which chipset is inside?

I wonder if I could telnet or ssh into the server and move the file from one directory to another directory locally. because that would save a lot of time.

I have tried ftp but \”mv\” is not a intern command of ftp. rename is there but could not use to move file.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dennis,

I’m using B48/L49 (the fixed version) on my CHD3LAN. I asked Conceptronic whether I can this NAS, using the SMB-server, to connect to a CFULLHDMA or another media centre (linke popcorn hour A100) using the SMB-client. Conceptronic says it CHD3LAN won’t work with CFULLHDMA. Can you confirm that? I read a messag from Kenny (last year) stating he usese his NAS with an MG-35 as the player.

Hi, i try to hack my iomega nas (network home) with your hack. the nas use rdc 2891 chipset.
can i install ssh, rsync and subversion on my nas modified? can you give me some information/links?
    Thanks a lot

  8. Rien says:

    Hi Dennis,

B49-beta (NexStar)/L49 on my CHD3LAN work fine in combination with popcorn hour A100 using the SMB-client. I upgraded the firmware because at first glance I thought it didn’t work with B48/L49 but misunderstood popcorn’s menu’s. I haven’t flashed back, cause it works fine. For DVD the NAS is to slow, but pictures and sound work fine. A .wmv with 800kbs also worked fine.

    Hi,
    I use NAS ‘ULS-3585’.
Recently I’ve upgraded my laptop to Windows 7.
since that I can’t access this storage.
I can see it in the network, but when trying to enter I get the following message:
“… not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. … Network error (1208)”

Do you have any idea what might be the problem?

I have the same problem with my NAS and Windows 7. In fact I have seen a lot of people having problems wit Windows 7 and their NAS. I get the following errors:

\\STORAGE-0382 is not accessible, You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if yu have access permissions.
    Network error (1208)

    I am using BASIC48, LOADER69

I can access it from by dual boot Vista but when booting into Windows 7 I get the above error.
Can anyone shed some light on how I can access the NAS?

    Hi there

It has been very interesting to read all these inputs and I want to try out a lot of the different ideas and updates however……

Before that is possible I unfortunately need to recover my data from a crashed NAS disk. The disk is running on a RDC-R2882 chipset with basic48 loader 67 firmware.
I have removed the disk from the NAS enclosure and put it into an old PC, making it possible to read most of the files. (Files below 4Gb)
All the files that is larger than 4Gb seems to have been divided into several segments names 1, 2 and soforth. By reading the posts above I found out that this is expected from the Samba server.

    Now to my question…
Is there ANY WAY to get the data combined again?
Some PC-tool, Linux-tool, samba server or anything to do??

I really hope I have struck gold here :-)

    Regards
    Christian

  13. Christian,

when accessing the data by LAN, they will be seen as 1 file

they are just simple split in 2 binaries, when you copy them binary together again
    they are 1 application again
    copy /b + [….]

I’ve noticed a couple of comments about using a NAS disk and Windows 7.

Try creating desktop shortcuts along the lines of:

    \\servername\foldername\

Obviously you need to use the web interface to create the folders but it works.

There is a security setting that can be altered in the registry but I can’t remember the exact details. Besides, I the fix and I couldn’t get it to work.

  15. David Booty says:

    Ray makes a good point.
Another method is to simply map the drive \\servername\foldername\ and have it reconnect at logon.

Yes…I did not know what I was getting into when I bought a Fantom drive enclosure.it is brand new but must have been built years ago.anyway I am having all kinda problems with my laptop and the drive I have figured it’s caused by my laptop is running Vista.can someone please tell me how I should go about updating the firmware?it has the R2882 chip in it.it has firmware basic43 0.67 loader.

  17. Charles Moore says:

Nevermind…it was easy as pie but I changed my Fantom drive into a Freecom..as long as it works and it does.

  18. Sellina says:

I have the problem as Jay, i.e. under windows 7 cannot browse the root directory, only to its subdirectory, e.g. \\storage\dir_1
BTW: My Sitecom MD-250 and firmware is NAS-BASIC45a, LOADER 69.

Another question I would like to ask any advices here is, if my sitecom NAS can be accessed by wii homebrew, seems it need a uPNP support, does it ?

    cheers!

  19. Thomas says:

    Sellina,

I have been frustrated all day by what I believe is a similar problem to the one you’re facing. I upgraded the firmware of my R2882 chipset NAS to BASIC48B1, LOADER 69, but like you I am still having problems communicating with the Wii. I believe the problem is that the R2882 NAS is hard-configured to listen for samba requests only on port 139 and the current modifications of the wii are configured to only search for samba connections on port 445. I’d love it if someone who has discovered a solution for this or a similar problem would post a quick response or link. Thanks!

  20. Hi guys,

Found you site when searching for a firmware upgrade for my
nas, was running basic41 loader 69, just upgraded
with yours to 45 and now my nas is very fast and snappy
when browsing with win 7 explorer. ftp browsing thru firefox
is the same. like going from and old beat volkswagon to a
    lamborghini.

    cheers

  22. I have no clue if this is possible
what I know is that Inxtron is a very big provider for OEM nas drives and has done a lot of business with this chipset
and in general there were no issues loading one bootloader onto another brand.

but this is years ago and I am already out of this business for several years.

  23. I Have one MDT-ULS3585,i need the drivers for it. I have searched everywhere online but cant get any. Can you please please tell me where to get them so i can make it work again.
    Thank You

    Kind Regards

Hello, I’m arrived here searching, with some blasphemy, a firmware release for my Fantec LD-H35NSU2 a crappy nas.
From the datasheet it could be accept till 2 tb drive, inserted in has result in no recognization, well, I’m switch down to 1,5tb, inserted in it has recognized, formatted but it will display avaiable space 0, full space 1430799 MB .
Current firmware release is NAS2890-008 LOADER 3.2 this means that is based on RDC2890 chip, I’ve not find out any upgrade, Fantec has deleted all old product and related support, they no answer at emails, I think because I’ve read (don’t remember where) they are acquired by someone else.
This long of word for ask if you have any to help me.
    Regards
